About Ladang CARE
Ladang CARE is Malaysian CARE’s Community Development Research and Demonstration Centre located in Chederiang, Perak. The centre serves as a place for sustainable agriculture training, community development learning, and practical demonstrations of cultivation methods, livestock rearing, and appropriate technologies.
Many of the participants in our sustainable agriculture programmes are Orang Asli farmers as well as community workers from Sabah and Sarawak. Through ongoing mentoring and accompaniment, some have begun applying these skills within their own villages and communities. Currently, we are journeying alongside villages in Perak and Pahang, with plans to further strengthen support in East Malaysia as well.
Ladang CARE also supports supplementary and indigenous education initiatives for Orang Asli children through it’s community education development efforts.
Why this matters?
The Orang Asli remain among the most economically vulnerable communities in Malaysia, with many depending on agriculture as a primary source of livelihood. While commercial agriculture can generate income, unsustainable practices may also contribute to environmental degradation and loss of biodiversity.
Ladang CARE seeks to encourage sustainable and context-appropriate approaches that strengthen livelihoods while caring for the environment and preserving natural ecosystems.
Our Goal
To empower Orang Asli communities to develop sustainable and self-supporting livelihood opportunities through integrated farming, community development, and environmentally responsible practices that are suitable to their living environment.
